but I would have gone through the insurance... I know some states require they have $1,000,000 insurance policies, etc... depending on the truck, but that's not the point... I've been burned in the past by doing it "on the side"...actually in my ONLY accident I've ever been in, 2 days after I turned 16, MANY MANY years ago. I bumped the back of him with my Maxima, mucho damage to the maxima, nothing to his FLATBED F150... we agreed since he was "ok" and there wa snothing wrong with his truck, we would not report it... bad move. We did exchange info though. I get a call from his laywers a few weeks later about this guy's "neck injuries" and other stuff... YOu know what happens from here... Basically, you opened yourself up to get screwed. He's a trucker, he goes all over the place...like hell you'd ever see him again. I hope he cut you a check, cash, or something right there, no matter if he's "cool" or not.
